Luyashan Mountain. Tianchi Lake (天池湖群 - Tiānchí hú qún).

Rem Sapozhnikov / August 2016
Once there were 15 lakes of various sizes in these places. Due to global warming, they have started to dry up, and now there are only three left.

The biggest of them, Tianchi Lake, is located at an altitude of 1771 meters above sea level. It can actually hardly be called big, because the maximum distance between the opposite shores is no more than 1 km. Lake Pipa is located 1.5 km from the Tianchi Lake, is even less – it has an elongated oval shape with a width of 750 m and a length of 230 m.
Our bus on the shore of Lake Tianchi. A few years ago, its bed was here with the average depth of the lake up to 15 meters. Since then, the water level has dropped by several meters.
On Google Maps Lake Tianchi is called Maying Lake (马营海 - Mǎyíng hǎi). The symbol is "horse", and is "camp / barracks / to operate". During the Tang Dynasty (618 – 907) it was the largest center of horse breeding. Up to 70,000 horses a year were grown here! ↑ Click for detailed view ↑
Earlier, from the period of Warring States (475-221 BC) for many centuries it had been a resort popular with the nobility and even emperors. ↑ Click for detailed view ↑
On the opposite bank you can see the Haiyingsi temple (海瀛寺 - Hǎiyíng sì).
Twice we drove by, we begged the guide to stop, but our requests were ignored.

Let's move on.
