Laoniuwan (老牛湾 - Lǎoniūwān), Shanxi province
Laoniuwan is our last destination with China Daily in Shanxi. The literal translation of the place name is "Old Ox Bay". Here the Great Wall of China built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) meets the Yellow River. Here is the border between the Shanxi province and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The Wall was built precisely for protection from nomad raids. Today, the northern border of the Shanxi province coincides hundreds of kilometers with the ancient heavily damaged Great Wall of China.Laoniuwan has very beautiful scenery. I think, being now better accessible by means of transport, it will become one of the most popular places to visit in Shanxi.
