The glorious history of Rybinsk is embodied in its numerous monuments. They are the real proof that its citizens have always been at the forefront of events: defending their homeland from enemies in hard times, heroically worked to the benefit of the whole country. To honor of residents of Rybinsk I must say that they have not “overthrown” the monuments of the Soviet period. This is our history, and we should know it, love, and not repeat the mistakes of the past.
28 meters high steel obelisk was erected on May 9, 1967 (author A.M. Komarov). In 1975 an eternal flame was lit at its foot. In 1977 an obelisk was topped with an 11-meter statue of aircraft engine manufacturer with an aircraft screw in his hand (by G.P. Postnikov). This memorial is a reminder of how, during the war residents of Rybinsk nobly worked at the Engine manufacturing plant. Soviet combat aircraft flew mostly using the first-class Rybinsk engines.
