US vs. Latin American Leaders
The Latin American media offer a plethora of materials denigrating the politicians of the countries situated to the north of Rio Grande who have fallen out of favor with Washington. As a rule, the decisions related to the information war against unwanted leaders are taken by the White House to be implemented by the State Department or the Central Intelligence Agency.

The information warfare interaction between the State Department and the CIA has a long history. It’s enough to remember the story of smear campaign ending up in the overthrow of Argentina’s President Juan Domingo Peron. In the period of 1946-1955 Washington accused him of a lot of things - from the creation of the Fourth Reich in South America to the promotion of anti-Semitism. He was especially blamed for post-WII German-Italian immigration to Argentina. This policy was implemented in the interests of the country’s industrialization. Americans did the same thing offering jobs to German rocket scientists, experts on nuclear power and engineers. Peron was the founder of the Justicialist Party (Partido Justicialista). He was a patriot who steadfastly resisted the attempts of the United States to subjugate Argentina. Different methods were used to soil his reputation. In 1951 liberal politician Silvano Santander, an exposed CIA agent, had to leave Argentina for Uruguay. In close collaboration with his US employers he started to publish articles painting Peron as an advocate of Nazism and Hitler’s follower. In 1955 Peron was overthrown. The summaries of Santander’s articles were included into the book Technique of a Treason. Juan Perón and Eva Duarte Nazi Agents in Argentina (Técnica de una traicion: Juan D. Perón y Eva Duarte, Agentes del Nazismo en la Argentina). The CIA still uses this fake publication as an example of effective slander campaign to be studied by agents sent to Latin America.

Santander did not spare Evita Peron, the wife of Argentinian President, who was very popular in Argentina and abroad. The book offers many photo copies of documents which allegedly prove the fact that Evita worked for Abwehr since 1941. Now it has become a well-established fact that Evita had nothing to offer as an intelligence agent and had no contacts with Nazi underground organizations. The poor girl had a dream to become an actress and had to eke out a miserable existence. Evita married Peron in October 1945 to be become involved in politics. Now many documents of the 1940-1950s have become unclassified. Have the State Department and the CIA repented of slandering the Perons? Nothing like that. Only accents changed. Evita was perceived as a symbol of social justice. Her personal success, the passionate character (she was often compared to Che Guevara) and the fact that she knew how to treat common people and what they felt – it all inspired in Argentinians a hope for better future. Evita Peron is an inspiring symbol for the Front for Victory (Frente para la Victoria, FPV), the Peronist electoral alliance in Argentina - formally a faction of the Justicialist Party. Cristina Elisabet Fernández de Kirchner, the President of Argentina, often remembers the Evita Peron’s legacy. That’s why US propaganda warriors defame her memory. Dozens of years have passed since her demise and no proof to support the accusations against her ever surfaced but CIA-controlled media continue to regularly come up with concoctions to smear the Evita’s reputation. The goal is to destroy the image of a legend that she enjoys in Argentina and other countries of Latin America.

This propaganda has special audience to include tycoons, small conservative parties, students from privileged families, the «fifth column» and bohemian declassed elements who see destabilization as a chance to grab and become somebody in this life. The slander operation against Eva Peron is part of massive provocation campaign launched by special services of the CIA (and Israel) against Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner and the Front for Victory. The recent death of prosecutor Nisman made surface new details giving ground to suspicions used by Americans and the influential Argentinian Jewish community to shatter confidence in the ruling alliance. They disseminate unconfirmed fabrications saying the Argentina’s President was personally involved in the tragic event.

Some time before his death Alberto Nisman publicly accused Cristina and Argentinian Foreign Minister Hector Timerman of conspiracy to absolve Iran of the 1994 Argentine Israelite Mutual Association (Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina) building bombing. Many Argentinian prominent lawyers said the accusations were unsubstantiated. Some experts believe that the absence of proof made the prosecutor end his life as a face saving gesture. Some say Nisman was killed by CIA. The case on «Iranian terrorism» was of dubious character and the prosecutor had no chances to win. His physical liquidation allowed the special services to continue their multi-phased campaign against Cristina and the Front for Victory. By the end of February the charges against Cristina were lifted but Gerardo Pollicita, the new prosecutor, appealed the ruling. Now a lot of depends on the frequency of his visits to the embassies of the United States and Israel.

Cristina Elisabet Fernández de Kirchner is not the only prominent Latin American politician being a target of Washington’s information war. First of all, it is targeted against the state of Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas. The US spares no effort to fight them. The United States-controlled media remains almost as active as in the days of the «Cold War». Only Cubans and Nicaraguans have become immune to this subversive propaganda offensive. TeleSUR regional channel came into being thanks to great efforts applied by late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. Its high skill broadcasting evokes concern in Washington. The Venezuelan television is accused of many things, like, for instance, the propaganda of Chavism and Castro-type of Communism, providing a podium for representatives of China, Russia and the countries allegedly supporting terrorism etc.

This concern is feigned because the leading Latin American media are under the United States control. The bulk of information circulated by the Latin America media outlets originates from four information agencies - Reuters, Associated Press, Agence France-Presse and EFE. It looks like the Central Intelligence Agency has recruited almost all leading reporters, correspondents and editors in Latin America. EFE (a Spanish international news agency) regularly attacks Latin American politicians not liked by the United States. The reports are picked up to be broadcasted by many information agencies, TV and radio-programs, electronic media outlets, magazines and newspapers with large circulation, film distribution networks etc. Venezuela, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Argentina, Brazil are used by US agents as springboards for information war operations aimed at undermining the power structures, bringing chaos into public and political life and smearing the reputations of nationally-minded leaders.

Involvement in corruption schemes is the favorite instrument of information warfare. Fidel Castro has been on the CIA corruption list for a long time. He has been said to possess bank accounts in Swiss and Caribbean banks. It sounded ridiculous from the start. In 2010 America magazine Forbes significantly reduced the «secret accounts» of Castro from $40 billion down to $900 million. It was emphasized that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Queen of United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, was poorer than the historic leader of Cuban revolution. In 2012 the magazine reduced the wealth of Castro down to $550 million. Now the King of Spain happened to be lagging behind the Cuban leader.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro went under harsh criticism of Western propaganda warriors for allegedly high daily expenditure to satisfy the needs of presidential administration (they say the sum is around $2 billion). Many publications are devoted to effuse expense practiced by Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, Rafael Correa, and the President of Ecuador who is reported to have acquired property in Belgium at the price of $260 million. Correa flatly denies the pseudo-revelations. Meeting journalists, the President of Ecuador said he bought a simple apartment in Belgium for him and Belgian-born wife. Journalists were offered the copies of documents with the pictures of the acquired unpretentious property.

With the help of controlled media Washington plans to prevent the emergence of new Perons and Chavezes on the continent. The US State Department and the Central Intelligence Agency are greatly concerned over the activities of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the former candidate for the position of President of Mexico. In 2012 different tricks and schemes, including rigging of electronic vote results, were used to take away the victory from him at the presidential election. Enrique Peña Nieto stole the election with the help of Mexican tycoons and the United States. With his sky-high ratings Obrador can take revenge in 2018. New smear campaign plots are being cooked up in the secret laboratories. For instance, the recent tweet devoted to Obrador reads «He calls himself the protector of the poor». The video clip shows him turning away from a street vendor like if he did not condescend to shake his hand. In reality the footage showed Obrador giving his supporter a friendly hug after a chat. A pro-American channel tampered with the video to «creatively» change what it actually showed. Who will know about it in Mexico where the TV and radio anchormen continue to serve the US interests?
