CIA discovered a terrorist in Chile
Print version

After tragic events of September 11, 2001, the United States declared war to real and imaginary terrorists throughout the world. Respective agreement on cooperation and mutual assistance has been signed between the USA and Chile.

With permission of the Chilean government the CIA has expanded a massive shadowing, telephone tapping and secret photographing of Arabs living in Chile. (At the same time officers of the Agency spied after the representatives of the Chilean state machinery, which is the usual practice of this agency).

However, when at the end of March of 2008, CIA agents tried to detain a Lebanese Arafat Ismail, businessman from the Zone of free trade in the city Iquique, local police refused to help them and participate in «abduction» of a person. That is how Chileans regarded the intentions of the North Americans to capture and take the Lebanese to the United States. The CIA methods in wresting an «avowal» from the innocent people are well known. Plastic bag on the head or test on «submersion» for a couple of minutes,- here you will admit anything.

A high-ranking official from the US Embassy in Santiago de Chile in her report to the State Department did not conceal her indignation regarding «irresponsibility» of Chileans, who not only frustrated the operation but allowed to leak the information regarding the scale of CIA activity in the region. But the Chileans can be understood. They do remember very well, what they got as the result of uncontrolled activity of CIA agents in the country at the beginning of the 70s, that lead to deposition of the legally elected government of S. Allende and numerous victims among his supporters. However, connivance to that CIA ominous activity in Chile on behalf of the «socialist» government of Bachelet, cannot but surprise. The Arab community in Chile regards this abduction attempt as a revelation of unjustified distrust to it.
